Who CBT Is For?
CBT is suitable for :
Anxiety disorders
Including generalised anxiety, panic, and social anxiety.
Depression and mood disorders
Including bipolar disorder and related emotional dysregulation.
Stress-related difficulties and burnout
Difficulties with emotional regulation
Low self-esteem and negative self-beliefs
Rumination, overthinking, and intrusive thoughts
Trauma-related symptoms
Difficulties linked to anger, impulsivity, or behavioural control
Problems related to substance use or maladaptive coping strategies
Psychological difficulties associated with offending behaviour or forensic involvement
How CBT Works
In CBT, we work together to:
Identify unhelpful or unbalanced patterns of thinking
Understand how these patterns developed
Explore alternative ways of thinking and responding
Develop practical strategies that can be used in everyday life
The aim is not to be overly optimistic or ignore difficulties, but to develop a more balanced and realistic way of responding to situations.
What to Expect
Discussing current difficulties and concerns
Identifying patterns that may be contributing to distress
Developing and practising practical strategies
Reviewing progress and adjusting goals over time.
You do not need to talk in detail about your past unless it is relevant to your present circumstances. The focus is on understanding what is happening in the present and finding ways to manage it more effectively.

EMDR may be appropriate for adults with:
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
Single-incident or complex trauma
Childhood or relational trauma
Distressing or intrusive memories
Anxiety linked to past experiences
How EMDR Works:
During EMDR, you are asked to focus briefly on a difficult memory while also engaging in a form of bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements or tapping.
This process helps the brain do what it naturally does during sleep: organise, process, and store memories in a way that reduces their emotional intensity.
Over time, the memory may still be remembered, but it no longer triggers the same emotional or physical response. Many people describe it as feeling more distant, less vivid, or less upsetting.
What to Expect
Before any memory processing begins, time is spent ensuring you feel safe, supported, and emotionally prepared. Sessions are paced carefully, and you remain in control throughout the process.
The focus is on helping your nervous system settle and allowing the brain to process experiences in a way that reduces distress and improves day-to-day functioning.

Areas of Experience Include:
Involvement with the criminal justice system
Complex trauma and developmental trauma
Emotional dysregulation and impulsivity
Substance and alcohol misuse alongside mental health difficulties
Risk-related behaviours
Long-standing patterns of maladaptive coping
Difficulties with relationships, trust, or emotional control
Therapeutic Approach
Work in this area is formulation-led, meaning therapy is guided by a clear understanding of how difficulties developed and what continues to maintain them.
Sessions focus on:
Understanding patterns of behaviour and emotional responses
Identifying risk and maintaining factors
Developing safer and more adaptive coping strategies
Strengthening emotional regulation and insight
Supporting long-term change rather than short-term symptom relief
The approach is structured, evidence-based, and grounded in trauma-informed practice.
A Professional and Non-Judgmental Space
All work is carried out within a professional, boundaried, and non-judgmental framework. The focus is on understanding behaviour rather than labelling it, and on supporting change in a way that is realistic, ethical, and clinically appropriate.
Where relevant, therapy also takes into account risk, responsibility, and long-term outcomes, while maintaining a respectful and collaborative therapeutic relationship.
Who This Work May Be Suitable For:
This service may be appropriate for individuals who:
Have experienced repeated or complex difficulties
Feel previous therapy has not addressed the full picture
Present with overlapping emotional, behavioural, or psychological needs
Require a structured, psychologically informed approach
